I'm Gearing Up for My Next Move

One more last move. That doesn't mean that my world will stop revolving. It just means that I will finally have a home base that will not need to be relocated. I will be able to hang the pictures on the walls and know that I will only have to move them should I really want to, not because I have to move.

Once that I get settled into my home I plan to kick up the traveling a bit. And I am super excited about that.

I was thinking that it would be great to be all moved into my new home my Memorial Day weekend! That is the weekend that I left California and also the same weekend, almost 24 years ago, that I first moved to California. How appropriate to be moving into my home.

I don't think that I am going to stay in Pennsylvania. My work with the state of Delaware has increased significantly since I moved to the east coast. I am considering making a move to that state.

Yesterday I began going through boxes and deciding what will actually make it to my new home. Not much, that I know for sure. I got enough stuff together, for Salvation Army, to fill my car trunk twice.

BTW, did you know that there is a Salvation Army in Queenstown, New Zealand? I had no idea that they were world wide. I was in Queenstown, New Zealand in December 2008, right around Christmas and the guy was standing outside of the store with his bell and red kettle, just like they do here in the states. I thought that was wild!

The skies are blue and the sun is shining down on the white ice and snow. This winter season has been one that I have never ever experienced before.

Moving Details

Here is the tentative moving schedule. I use the word "tentative" because everything is subject to change. Shit happens! So if shit doesn't happen then my plans should play out. If shit does happen... then the plans I write here will be modified.

In 6 days (next Sunday, May 17th) I fly from CA to PA.

On Monday the 18th I meet with the real estate girl to show me places to rent in Bloomsburg, PA. That is where I want to move to. I have drove through the town several times and checked it out on the Internet. Bloomsburg has a University and that is one of the main reasons I want to move there. It is also a small town of approximately 15,000 people. I wanted a small town feel without a small town mentality.

I will be in PA for 3 days. During that 3 days I will agree to a place to rent, complete paper work, set up bank accounts, etc.

On Thursday, May 21st, my guy and I fly back to Los Angeles. We have 2 days to finish up with the packing. I will have the majority of it done.

On Friday, May 22nd, a trailer will be dropped off. I am using a company called U-Pack. My sister saw a commercial about this company and told me about it. It's pretty cool. My guy in PA also told me about companies that put your furniture on a load with a commercial haul and it doesn't cost that much. It will literally cost me half of what it would have cost me to rent a U-haul truck and drive it myself across country.

On Saturday, May 23rd, I have some professional packers showing up to professionally pack the trailer and tie everything down.

From Saturday around noon until Tuesday around noon my guy and I will be camping out in an empty apartment. Not one stick of furniture will be here. Just us, the blankets, pillows and 2 cats.

Monday, May 25th, is the Memorial Day Holiday and the weekend I arrived here 23 years ago.

Tuesday, May 26th, the apartment manager will come to do the final walk through and the trailer will be picked up. Both of these will occur before noon. As soon as these are done we hop in the car with my two cats and begin the approximately 5 day drive. It might only take us 4 days. I had the trip mapped out for 8-10 hours a day of driving. And I had it routed with the idea that I would be driving a 35 foot, loaded, uhaul truck. So a lot of steep terrain was avoided. I am going back to AAA today and have the route modified.

The trailer is scheduled to arrive in PA around Tuesday, June 2nd.

I am looking forward to all of this. I will be beginning another chapter in my life.

Say a Prayer for Kitty

Upon arriving home last night I found Kitty having a hard time breathing. I instantly found a 24 hour animal hospital and took him there.

Kitty was diagnosed with Rhinotracheitis, which is characterized by respiratory symptoms such as sneezing, nasal discharge, rhinitis (inflammation of the nose), and conjunctivitis (inflammation of the membrane lining the eyelid). It is usually seen in kittens.

Kitty will be 6 years old Memorial Day weekend (end of May). A chest x-ray was taken and he was given a steroid shot last night. He has to be given amoxicillin twice a day for 10 days. He can't stand the medicine. I gave it to him this morning and his breathing was much better today. This evening he began foaming at the mouth when I gave him the antibiotic. He's eating but just not as much as he normally would.

Kitty is by far the smartest cat I have ever had. The picture is of him sitting on my files in my office.

Rain...... Snow

It's still raining here in Los Angeles. Which means it will be another slow work day. The mail will be delivered 2 hours later than normal. One of the reasons is because yesterday was a holiday and then combined with the rain.... it really slows everything down here.

The thing I just don't understand is here we are getting snow in the mountains and on the "Grapevine" freeway and they are saying you can only drive if you have chains on your tires. To go up in the mountains to ski they are saying you need "studs" in your tires. In Pennsylvania people were driving around in the snow with no chains on their tires or studs in their tires. Maybe it has something to do with plows and salt. I am not sure ... something new to learn about.

I know that I said that I would be rolling out of California on Memorial Day (end of May) however I am feeling that it will probably occur in April. There were 2 reasons to stay until the end of May; 1) My apartment lease is up then; and 2) It's the official anniversary date of when I moved here 23 years ago. My reasons for moving in April are; 1) April is a slow work month for me as every one's busy with their taxes; 2) Gas prices traditionally rise in the month of May when schools are ending for summer vacation (keep in mind I will be driving across country); and 3) I am ready to go.

This picture was taken a few weeks ago when I was in Pennsylvania home shopping. Check out my coat, I got it in Iceland. I was in Iceland in February 2007. I actually purchased this coat and a wool jacket. I knew I wouldn't be able to wear them in California. They are perfect for Pennsylvania. I had on my water proof boots, leather and cashmere gloves, killer coat and hat and I was a warm as a bug in a rug trucking through the snow.
